Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at a high school where we have a diverse low-income population. My students struggle every day with issues that would surprise most people. Within this population, passion and drive help them to succeed but we need more tools to help them get there.
I'm in charge of the Multimedia Academy where I get to see students driven by their passion and overcome their daily obstacles.
Some go on to be professional artists and some walk away with the knowledge to appreciate art and the world around them.
My Project
The magazines will help the students get motivated to create their own ideas. I want to create more choice in my classroom and the magazines have about 3-4 artists in each issue that they could research and produce an art piece that imitates the artist.
By giving my students choice, they will be engaged with their projects and go beyond expectations.
I'm excited to see what my students will create with this new resource and freedom.
This year I've created more choice with a variety of projects and the outcomes have been great. Talking to former students they are jealous of my current students because they had to follow specific steps. After hearing their responses I know I'm headed in the right direction.
