I teach students who have a mild intellectual disability at a high school in Newport News, Virginia. Many times when my students come to school in tears or are angry and cannot verbalize how they are feeling, or understand their feelings. I started the year teaching my students all about a fixed versus a growth mindset. I want to focus on fostering a Growth Mindset in my students in math. I will accomplish this by using a variety of interactive journals and activities to jump-start conversations and activities surrounding the concepts of social, emotional, and mental well-being.
I want my students to have a powerful mindset and the skills to overcome any challenges that they may face.
I want my students to not give up when faced with a challenging math problem and to be able to grow instead of giving up.
Teaching multiple grade levels in one room gets very expensive. Unfortunately, our school does not have a budget for my student needs. As a result, I turn to different donor sources to assist me with meeting my student's needs and interests.
