My Project
Every year, as a culminating project in History class, my students engage in their favorite activity of the year - researching and designing a museum exhibit about their chosen unsung hero of history! As an Ancient History teacher, my state curriculum dictates that students spend the year learning about prominent ancient figures such as Hatshepsut, Qin Shihuangdi, Ashoka, and more. However, these individuals are primarily men and come from wealthy backgrounds that do not represent all of the diverse cultures present in my classroom.
In the Unsung History Heroes museum project, students will choose a historical figure from the more recent past to practice engaging in the skill of historical research in a way that is relevant to them.
They will choose from a wide selection of prominent historical figures, using books and the internet to learn about their chosen person's background, achievements, and challenges. Finally, they will create a museum exhibit to display what they have learned for their families at our annual Expo Night.
In this project, I am requesting poster boards for my 4 classes, as well as some newer biographies to assist students with their historical research!
