Help me give my students ways to learn self-management and mindfulness with the benefits and work of yoga! With the yoga mats, yoga blocks, and stretch bands, students will learn the true meaning of mindfulness.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our RSP classroom is full of color, creativity, and energy. We work on engaging projects and tasks in flexible small and whole groups throughout the day. We have inside jokes and laughs, but they work hard when it is time to learn. I am proud of the camaraderie we have created!
The students in my RSP classroom are in third, fourth, and fifth grade and receive special education services in both language arts and mathematics.
While they enjoy being in their general education classroom, they absolutely love coming to the RSP classroom and working on projects that meet their instructional level and help them feel successful. My students are all creative, love formulating new ideas, and truly have a love for learning.
My Project
Studies upon studies have shown that utilizing yoga and meditation promotes self-management and mindfulness in students, especially exceptional students who have difficulty doing so on their own. With the use of the yoga mats, yoga blocks, and stretch bands, students will not only learn about yoga fundamentals in a fun and supportive environment, but they will be learning in a way that is safe and individualized for each student. They will have the opportunity to learn breathing techniques, ways to promote flexibility, learn to persevere, and the benefits of self-determination and pushing through difficult tasks. I as a teacher would better be able to support my students when they encounter big feelings!
