My Students
For many of my students, Kindergarten is their first experience in a school setting. They begin the year thinking we will spend the day playing together, and I want my classroom to feel like that as much as possible. This year school will look and feel different than a typical school year, but my students deserve to have a safe and comfortable learning space that has engaging and fun materials.
Kindergartners are eager, full of energy, funny, and kind - and I love working with them every day.
My students attend an incredible elementary school in Virginia where we value making connections and putting the needs of students first.
My Project
I love introducing my students to new art materials and adding them to our art center as the year goes on. Having a variety of materials is important so there are enough things for multiple students to use, and enough resources to keep students engaged. Multiculutral crayons of varying skin colors will be added students' pencil boxes to supplement our basic crayons colors. A crayon sharpener will be used to hopefully elongate the life of students' crayons, especially the ones they love that have glitter and metallics. Pattern stampers will be used with play dough. Magnetic tape will be used to display student work. Watercolor palettes are a favorite in Kindergarten, and students love being able to use them independently. Laminating sheets will be used to preserve art for special occasions. Cones of yarn are a material we can ran out of last year, to my students' dismay; they make jewelry, hanging art, and things beyond my imagination.
All of these materials will benefit my students' creativity in different subject areas and help give my students access to learning through art.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
