This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds and are at various academic levels. Now they are reconnecting with their peers in person in their first complete classroom experience since before kindergarten. They are excited to be in school and are enthusiastic about learning and practicing new skills together each day.

Their enthusiasm, kindness, and resilience is contagious.

This is a special group with many strengths!

My Project

In the past, classrooms have had a carpet to give students a chance to move and gather for lessons and special moments. Our old carpet has been rolled up for nearly two years and is musty and unhealthy. Sitting in plastic chairs all day can be difficult! This year we are aware of the space around ourselves and avoid being too close together.

The personal seating cushions, number squares, and runner will allow for more spacious seating options for lessons and reading times.

After learning from home last year, students are socializing much more and sometimes it can be overwhelming. The sensory and fidget toys will stock the Calming Corner, while the set of books will boost our social emotional awareness and self-regulation learning. Disinfecting wipes are in continuous use as we try to maintain a healthy room.

This project will build safe, healthy, and flexible learning places --for the body and soul!
