My students need all the equipment necessary to practice drills and play soccer games. The Lil Shooter Goal, corner flags, soccer balls, and pinnies are necessary to develop all the skills necessary to play the game.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fourth grade students are amazing children learning in a Title 1 school located in a high-poverty area and who receive a free lunch. They are also English learners and as stated before come from low-income households. These two realities put them at a disadvantage because they have limited English skills and have less of an opportunity to participate in enrichment activities. Although this is true, you wouldn’t think so based on their attitudes. They are a very positive group. They love learning and always put forth great effort in everything they do. They are eager to learn, especially when it comes to physical activity. My students, girl and boys, are huge soccer fans. It is their number one sport of choice.
My Project
My project aims to creating physically and mentally healthy students. As the Presidential Youth Fitness Program states, it is well known that physical activity is critical to a child’s health and well-being. It keeps children active, strong, healthy, and may enhance mental skills like problem solving. This in turn will improve their academic performance in the classroom. My goal is to do this through a fun and well-liked sport. For my students that sport is soccer.
Learning to play soccer would help my students maintain a fit body as the Presidential Youth Fitness Program calls for and would help them reach their own personal fitness goals and keep a lifelong healthy lifestyle.
I want to teach my students the skills needed to play soccer, but unfortunately we don’t have the necessary soccer equipment. Having the goal, corner flags, soccer balls, and pinnies would allow this to happen. After all, you can not learn to play a game without the key equipment. This equipment would allow my students to have fun playing, learn sport skills, learn to work as a team, and overall maintain a healthy body and mind. The way a kid's body should always be!
