Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students really enjoy and want to conduct more experiments and labs during Science. They need materials to do these labs such as scales, measuring sets, paper, scissors, glue, safety glasses, hot plates, and batteries. They need more hands-on learning experiences.
I teach 3rd Grade Math/Science/Social Studies, and because we are departmentalized I teach two groups of students.
Each class contains 17 students. However, both classes consist of students that have been identified as Gifted. Being that they are Gifted they tend to be very inquisitive and eager to learn. I am constantly looking for and needing to provide enrichment activities and more project-based learning for them. We are a Title I school, meaning majority of our students are coming from a low Socio-Economic Status and receive Free or Reduced Lunch. We have over 900 students at our school.
My Project
I will use the materials to create and provide more hands-on science learning. Many of the materials will be used to develop Science Labs/Experiments. This will allow the students to actually see the concepts I am teaching. Many of the students also struggle with Math and would benefit by having manipulatives to use to learn the concepts. I will use some of the materials to create Small-group materials that students can use during differentiated instruction. Students will use the materials to also create various things to help gain a better understanding of what is being taught.
The donations will allow me to create a learning environment in which I can cultivate and create a love for Math and Science.
I want students to be able to enjoy and want to continue in these fields of study. We need to develop a passion for Science and Math. I would like to create for future Scientists and Mathematicians in the world. Hopefully, one day one of my students will change the world.
