Help me give my students different resources such as magnetic math manipulatives, discovery cans, and problem solving centers that they are able to use in the classroom that will help them develop proficiency in skills they have and to practice new skills.

My Students
My 5th grade students are competitive, bright and have a lot of GRIT. I know this very well because they were my students from last year. They were my fourth graders and I am following them into fifth grade. I will be teaching Math this year, which is exciting because my students have such great potential and only seek success.
While they enjoy a challenge and push themselves every day, all my students have different needs that need to be targeted in different ways.
All of my students learn differently, some need physical items to manipulate and others are visual learners.
One challenge that my students face is to connect math to the real world and learn abstract concepts like fractions and geometry. This year a big focus is for me to help my students bridge the gaps they have when learning these new concepts in math and building on already learned skills and concepts. This will help them accomplish the difficult tasks and projects I throw their way, and feel confident that they have a great foundational skill set to accomplish it.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go and be used for. In my classroom, we do a lot of independent work with partners, and small groups. The flash cards, activity cards and math journals are all resources the students will use during their independent time to practice their skills without the teachers guidance. Having the flash cards and activity boards make it more interesting, compared to doing worksheets and textbook problems. The Magnetic Math Library, with additional magnetic sets added, are going to be used to help make certain topics and lessons more interactive and visual for my students. This is a great hands on item that students can use when they are in a small teacher lead group with me. This will help my visual learners to understand many new concepts in class.
These materials will assist in not only building them as mathematicians, but also make math different from the norm by providing multiple options of practice for them, allowing them to develop greater understanding of everyday math skills and giving them the tools they need to succeed.
Personally, I cannot wait to see how they develop as intelligent mathematicians and how it will impact them in using it in their everyday life.
