Help me give my students exciting materials to use as we explore letter names and sounds. These letter boards come with the alphabet printed on them, which support students as they become proficient alphabet users.
My students are eager kindergartners who love to learn. They are engaged when moving, creating and sharing their thinking about their work.
Kindergartners today are busy and there is much to do and learn.
My students learn to read, write, add and subtract. They work on social skills that are necessary for them to work and play with their classmates. They explore art and science and use technology to practice academic skills.
I plan our days to allow for a lot of movement, to keep my students' brains engaged. However, there is work to be done that involves repetition, which isn't always the most fun for students. This has prompted me to look for new activities and materials that will allow me to energize our learning times and to keep students excited about the hard and important work we are doing.
My Project
The English language is a complex one, with many rules and exceptions to those rules. Some letters only make one sound, some make several and the possibilities continue to expand as letters are combined into words.
Why does "B" make the sound that it does?
Letter sounds are abstract and it can be difficult for students to learn and remember all of the sounds. Using these letters and boards within a fast-paced and energetic curriculum will support all students and be especially helpful for students who need additional time and exposure to make these connections.
The project will benefit our entire kindergarten team! Our K team of teachers work closely together to share ideas and strategies as we work to provide precisely what our students need, at the time they are best able to use the information.
