Creating Counting Collections

My students need math manipulatives (such as Unifix Cubes, bus & bear counters, beads, and pom poms), in addition to 6 large storage bins, magnet tape, and 4 teacher resource books that provide daily problem solving activities that are hands-on and engaging.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the privilege of teaching such wonderful and capable students every year. My first graders are inquisitive, natural problem solvers. They just need guidance and opportunities for hands-on activities to become successful mathematicians.

My students come from diverse backgrounds, and our school celebrates the diversity our school has!

My class is made up of predominantly English Language Learners as well, varying in cultures and languages. They attend a Math and Science Magnet school, so my students come in with an enthusiasm for math and science. My students are math-minded and need to become challenged with problem solving and critical thinking activities. My class is focusing on problem solving in math to help them become college and career ready. My students are bright, capable, and eager learners, and I am always so proud of how much they achieve throughout the school year!

My Project

We are requesting math manipulatives for our Math lessons and our Math Workshop Time. My students will use the math manipulatives to help them develop their counting, adding, subtracting, and problem solving skills. We are also requesting teacher books to provide unique, research-based activities for students to explore math concepts in a new and meaningful way.

These materials will greatly benefit our classroom because they will help my students become mathematicians.

My students will be provided hands-on activities to develop number sense and problem solving. The math manipulatives and teacher resource books will allow students to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. Thank you for helping us become mathematicians!
