Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students are special in many different ways. Many of our students have had some challenges and difficulties that most people will never experience throughout their lives. Many of our students deal with poverty, grief and loss, housing instability, and food shortages on a regular basis. Many families also live with extended family members or close friends in very small quarters.
Having been quarantined for a portion of their lives has also negatively impacted our students.
We are seeing an increase in social anxiety, low self-esteem, and fear amongst our students. Oftentimes students arrive at school having not slept well, without clean clothes, and without basic school supplies. Students are relearning societal norms, including communication, hygiene, and structure.
Teachers and staff try their best to provide an environment of safety, calmness, and happiness. It is our hope to teach our students ways to focus, become self-aware of their emotions and feelings, and learn how to be successful. These requested resources will help our teachers and staff to provide social-emotional support by allowing all staff to be a part of our student's SEL and academic learning.
