Creating Community Through Physical Education

My Students

My students are the best students there are! They are often heard volunteering to help each other learn. They encourage learning from both themselves and others. Each of my students is amazing at a continued growth mindset, making even large challenges seem doable.

I teach in a middle income area where a free public education is just that--free.

No one is required to bring in supplies, so sometimes we lack needed supplies to help everyday learning be both engaging and child centered.

They love ART, STEM, SCIENCE, and READING.

My Project

The PE equipment at my school is lacking. I teach PE in addition to other subject areas. With this starter set of PE equipment and jump ropes, this will help me to be able to do new and fun PE games.

PE games help students learn how to participate and have perseverance.

They learn how to work cooperatively and create a learning community. Learning how to work with everyone is a life long skill. PE is one of the best places to teach this concept. When kids are on a team together, they learn how to help each other, so that all can be successful. Students cheer each other when they play games. These could be as simple as playing kickball, or a relay game. Earlier this year we played Hopscotch. They cheered others on as they learned the game. They were happy that they could all be successful. They liked the game so much, that several of them played it for recess many times after that.

This will also help my students want to participate and stay healthy as they learn new games.
