Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In anticipation of my incoming students for the 2024-2025 school year, I want to create a warm, welcoming and organized learning environment for these bright, curious individuals with diverse backgrounds and talents.

These cabinets will be used to organize and display reading and writing materials which will make significant impact on my students' educational journeys.

I am hoping to create an area to engage students and encourage them to want to explore reading and writing materials in order to develop a love of literacy.

In my classroom, I believe that fostering a love of reading and writing is fundamental to academic success and personal growth.

I plan to use the cabinets to stock a wide range of books catering to various reading levels and interests. From classic literature to fiction, non-fictions and culturally diverse stories. My students will have the opportunity to explore a plethora of reading materials that resonates with their individual preferences. Having designated literacy cabinets will encourage students to engage in independent reading during designated reading periods or leisure time. By allowing my students to choose books that capture their imagination, I'm hoping to empower them to take ownership of their learning and develop a lifelong habit of reading for pleasure.

These cabinets will also contain resources such as vocabulary cards, comprehension worksheets and writing prompt designed to reinforce literacy skills. By creating a literacy-rich environment with books and writing materials prominently displayed in my classroom, the literacy cabinets will create a visually stimulating environment that celebrates the joy of reading and writing.

This constant exposure to literature will inspire curiosity, spark creativity and foster a sense of community centered around literacy. Having these cabinets, it's not just filling shelves, I am hoping to open the doors to a world of possibilities through the power of literacy.
