Creating Change, One Design at a Time

My Project

As an educator in a juvenile detention center/transition program, I'm deeply inspired by my students' resilience and potential for growth. Despite their past mistakes, these young individuals possess an incredible capacity to learn and transform when provided with a safe, supportive environment.

Having a heat press machine with accessories will enable efficient, cost-effective, and versatile design techniques, fostering student creativity, confidence, and entrepreneurial spirit while producing high-quality products for fundraising and personal growth.

Students will design and print custom t-shirts using the heat press. Products will be sold for fundraising, boosting confidence, and teaching practical skills.

These resources will enable students to develop a valuable skill while engaging in a creative, entrepreneurial project.

My goals for this project are to:

1. Boost students' self-esteem and confidence through accomplishment.

2. Teach practical skills in design, marketing, and business management.

3. Foster teamwork and communication skills.

4. Provide a positive outlet for creativity and self-expression.

5. Introduce students to potential career paths in design and entrepreneurship.

What makes these students special is their ability to adapt and thrive when given the right opportunities. Many have faced significant challenges in their lives, yet they show remarkable resilience and a willingness to learn when provided with guidance and support.

In our detention center, we strive to create a nurturing environment where students can develop new skills. This project will allow them to see beyond their current circumstances and envision a positive future for themselves. By engaging in a t-shirt design and production process, they'll not only learn valuable skills but also experience the pride of creating something tangible and meaningful.

Ultimately, this project represents more than just learning new skills; it's about showing these young individuals that they have the potential to succeed and contribute positively to society, regardless of their past decisions.
