In today’s fast-paced and often stressful world, students face challenges that affect not only their academics but also their emotional well-being. As a teacher of a wonderfully diverse group of students, I see firsthand the importance of supporting the whole child—both academically and emotionally. My classroom is filled with learners who come from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences, and many have unique social and emotional needs.
That’s why I’m seeking support to create a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) space and a calming corner within my classroom.
This dedicated area will be a safe place where students can go when they feel overwhelmed, need to reset, or just want to take a break. It will include tools such as mindfulness activities, sensory items, and cozy seating to help students manage their emotions in a healthy way.
This space will also support our daily SEL lessons, which help students develop self-awareness, build empathy, manage relationships, and practice mindfulness. By incorporating these practices, we create a culture of understanding and respect, where every student feels seen and valued, no matter their background or emotional needs.

A calming corner: equipped with soft seating, fidget tools, and sensory items where students can take a break when they are feeling overwhelmed.
Social-emotional learning materials: such as books, games, and visuals that teach mindfulness, empathy, emotional regulation, and coping strategies.
Inclusive tools: that reflect the diversity of my classroom and represent the cultural backgrounds of my students, so they feel seen and valued.
