Our students love to learn new things! Our school is for students with special needs who, because of severe emotional and behavioral issues, have not been able to learn successfully at their regular schools. They learn a little bit differently, and we are able to accommodate their differences and keep them in school and in class!
Our school provides a safe place where students can make mistakes, learn coping skills and master problem-solving strategies while continuing to be exposed to the district-wide academic curriculum.
Instead of being suspended or removed from the learning environment for extended parts of the day, our daily goal is to keep students in the learning environment.
My Project
For this project we are going to use a button maker supplies to create some badges to wear to show our courage, our honor, our uniqueness, our creativity, our pride, and our love for ourselves and for others! We will begin by researching how buttons have been used through history and locate examples of ones that we especially like because of the message and/or the design. Then we will think about the kind of thoughts and messages that are so important to us that we would like to wear them on our chest for the world to see or give them to others to express our feelings for them.
The badges will give even the most timid students a voice and a way to express themselves.
It will be an exercise in brevity and clarity of thought. It will be an opportunity for every student to tell the world something about themselves that, maybe, no one ever asked them. It will be a step toward speaking up for those who might not be so good at that. It will be a very personal creative outlet. It will be awesome.
