My Students

Have you ever tried to make a collage or draw on a specific type of paper but can't? It is kind of hard to do! What about torn construction paper self portraits inspired by Picasso? It is extremely hard when you don't have the correct supplies!

I am the Art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.

We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.

My Project

Colorful! Bright! Bold! Intense! Vibrant! These are words that describe what our art is need in my classroom. We need your help to add some color into our art projects!! We no longer have construction paper and have been scraping by on what we could beg and borrow from other teachers, but we need some to have on hand! Please help us get 9"x12", 12"x18" and 18'x24 construction paper for our art classroom!

Your donation to this project will help my students to see the world as it truly is- colorful, intense, amazing, and just plain beautiful.
