This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a public middle school located in a rural area. Most of my classes will have 30 students, with 5 periods, resulting in 150 students. We are a Title I school with 100% free and reduced meals.
My students are always excited to go to the lab, experiment, learn, examine, and analyze subjects with the right equipment.
When I attended 8th grade Science, I had an influential teacher that had many hands-on labs. I want to inspire my students the same way.
My Project
My students have taken every challenge thrown at them and turned it into a great learning experience. In the process of staying safe, social distancing, and not sharing anything, we have learned how to create art virtually, as well as make individual kits for each student. Of course, that gets a little pricey for the teacher.
I know that art is crucial to the development of our 7th and 8th-grade students because it gives them an outlet, tools to relax, and take their minds off of any stress that they have.
Now is the time that the students need art the most! They need that creative outlet especially these days.
I want to give them the opportunity to express themselves, try out new mediums, and proudly display their work.
Since I cannot have a central station for students to fill their pallets, I need to create individual kits for the students to keep. I believe this is better in the long run so that students can keep their art supplies for future use. It is a win/win!
