My Students

Help me give my students art supplies and books to promote engagement and self-expression while at home!

We are a Title I school located in the heart of the East Village.

Most of the students come from hard-working immigrant, low-income families. When we were at school we were able to provide these materials for the students, however, now that they are at home we know that art supplies will not come before food, clothing, and shelter. Therefore we would like to be able to provide this for them.

My Project

Having access to books and the opportunity to be creative on a daily basis will provide students with motivation to engage in other daily "class" activities during this online learning experience.

We have noticed that even with daily access to online reading resources - students are not able to access certain sites due to lack of technological resources and due to having multiple children in the home.

Nothing beats having a book in your hand and being able to come back to it again and again.

When children are able to express themselves through art, they are more likely to enjoy other parts of learning.

While academic progress is important for children, it does not occur without motivation and confidence. I believe that having art supplies and books provide children with daily opportunities to explore stories and characters and express their ideas through art! Engaging in art activities also provides emotional support and a way for children to express themselves in different ways. I know they will be very appreciative!
