Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment: Essential Furniture for SPED Success

Help me give my students a circle time rug and cube chairs to sit safely in during instruction time.

My Project

A big, colorful rug will help establish clear boundaries in my classroom, which is especially helpful for students with autism or ADHD who may feel overwhelmed with open or unstructured spaces. The soft texture offers tactile input that can be soothing to students with sensory processing disorders. Sitting or lying on a rug can provide a sense of comfort and security, reducing anxiety and promoting focus. This rug will be the gathering spot for circle time, small group activities, or peer interaction. Cube chairs have firm, supportive sides and a defined seating area, which helps students feel secure and grounded, especially those students who struggle with balance.

My goal for this project is to provide furniture that supports the diverse physical, sensory, and emotional needs of students with disabilities.

By using specialized seating and calming spaces (like rugs and cube chairs) students will stay regulated and attentive during lessons.

My students are special because they bring unique perspectives, strength, and resilience to the classroom. They enjoy participating in the school setting. The joy they show when they are in the classroom makes it so rewarding to give them the things they need to be successful on a daily basis.
