This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are loud and proud. Most of them come from Spanish speaking households making English one of their most challenging classes. Being able to read is being able to communicate with each other, with me, and ultimately the world. I want my students to have access to as many books differing in genre and content to engage them as the young, reluctant readers that they are. I believe that learning to love to read is the key to their future success.

My kiddos mean the world to me and they inspire me to be better so these novels will be their gateway to being understood, heard, and seen by all!

Their energy is contagious and I find myself constantly adapting and changing the way I teach, the way the room is set up and how I want the environment of my room to feel each day.

My Project

My students are middle school pandemic students, meaning they are a bit of reluctant readers right now. These book choices are diverse and inclusive in order to ensure that they will hold my students' interests and help teach them that they will love to read, once they find novels of their interest!

No one is a bad reader, they just haven't found the right book yet.

Adding these high-interest books into my classroom will allow my students to find the book that is just right for them. My goal is to begin First Chapter Fridays where students will read the first chapter of every book to see which one catches their attention. I look forward to seeing my now reluctant readers to passionate readers.
