This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

There's little meaning or use for staring at a computer screen unless it leads to student learning. This year, our classroom is piloting a program known as 'i-Ready' Learning. It is the first online program in my 6 years as an educator that in my opinion (1) adds truly personalized, meaningful screen-time to the instructional day and (2) holds their interest, even during the most difficult tasks.

From August to December this year, my students have reported to me feeling less distracted, less frustrated, and more engaged during whole group instruction after we pledged to meet a 45 minute per week i-Ready challenge for Reading and Math. High quality, noise-cancelling sound is important in this equation, especially for my emerging and developing English Language Learners.

For our learning needs (and sanity) we need headphones that last. Unfortunately, most students report the school's standard plastic earbuds working only in one ear or worse hurting their ears after continuous use. My students should have not have to choose between painful or inaudible instruction. I also don't expect all of my students to be in a position replace theirs from home or go out and buy new ones themselves. Your donation can help us get everyone on the same playing field.
