Creating an Environment to Meet Sensory and Academic Needs

Help me give my students an environment to meet their sensory and academic needs with flexible seating, geometric shapes, magnetic tiles, a magnetic ten frame, fidget toys, and so much more!

My Project

My students have many individual and diverse needs. As a first year resource teacher, I want to meet the unique needs of every learner. This project will give me the tools to do that! There are a variety of items in this project because my students are in several grades with differing abilities. A need that I have already seen is the need for my learners to have hands on and visual representations of mathematics. There are many materials in this project to be able to help with that. One example could be the magnetic ten frame that will allow me to illustrate the idea of regrouping as my second grade students are learning two digit addition. Mathematical applications can be seen for other materials as well.

Another need my students have is access to materials to help them meet sensory needs, activities for a break to calm down, or motivating rewards for meeting behavior goals.

Other items such as the magnetic tiles, fidget toys, wobble stools, and lego set can help meet these needs. Having these materials easily accessible will enable the students to have their sensory needs met so they can have the focus needed to succeed academically.

Finally, there are certain items that will help with classroom organization like rolling cart and the pencil boxes. These items will help me stay organized making it possible for me to do my best as a teacher and give the students the education they deserve.

All these items are durable and can be used year after year. I hope that together we can make this vision I have for my classroom a reality for my wonderful deserving students!
