Creating an Aviation-Themed Publishing & Crafting Classroom!
Help me give my students the chance to create a unique Publishing & Crafting Classroom with an aviation twist, where they can become authors, illustrators, and publishers of their work.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students will build their own paper airplanes, each representing a special destination they dream of visiting. They’ll then write about their chosen location, describing what excites them about it, and we’ll publish their stories to share with the class.
I am thrilled to create a Publishing & Crafting Center with an aviation theme that will inspire my first graders to explore their creativity and enhance their literacy skills.
In this center, students will build and personalize paper airplanes as part of an imaginative "travel" adventure. Each student will choose a special destination they'd love to visit, then “fly” there with their plane. Afterward, they’ll write about their chosen location, sharing what they would do and why it’s meaningful to them. We’ll publish these stories, allowing students to experience the thrill of being authors, illustrators, and publishers of their own travel tales.
To bring this vision to life, we need:
Bookshelves and storage: As our classroom library and resource collection expand, additional bookshelves will help us display and organize our materials. Storage solutions like bins and baskets will keep our crafting supplies neat and accessible, creating a welcoming environment for students.
Bookmaking supplies: To support the creation of student-authored books, we need supplies like labels, and book rings,. These materials will allow students to bind their stories into books they can proudly share.
Printer ink: A supply of printer ink will help us print students' stories, artwork, and other materials, allowing them to see their work in a professional format and fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment.
