This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My scholars made our virtual class a wonderful, positive community. They are my superstars! They joined class on time, embraced the lessons, and completed their assignments daily. My first scholar has DiGeorge syndrome, autism, and she’s nonverbal. Yet she greets us each day with a beautiful smile.
My next scholar is our mayor!
He has overcome physical, and academic challenges and continues to set new goals for himself daily. And we are all so proud of him! He told me that someday he wants to visit The White House. My next student is a talented artist. Her favorite model is her cat Oreo. She is headed to high school in September, and she’ll be missed. My other graduating student is also an incredible artist. He loves drawing Charlie Brown and Snoopy. I am very pleased to say that this scholar was selected to say the pledge allegiance at the eighth-grade virtual graduation ceremony. I was extremely proud.
Although two students are headed to high-school, I am very much looking forward to the new chapter in our classroom community.
My Project
Flexible seating (i.e. bean bag chairs, yoga balls) and chair bands support students' natural need for movement and comfort while learning in a classroom setting. The transition from hybrid and virtual learning to in-person school, while still during a pandemic, caused increased pressure and apprehension among children. We currently do not have proper seating in the classroom. Children with autism need comfortable school chairs to gain success in educational achievements.
This project will equip my classroom with seating options, fidget materials, and books that will support my students physically, emotionally, and academically.
Lastly, the smaller sensory items support students with nerves and anxiety by allowing them to fidget and release energy while they work.
