Creating a World of Diverse Readers and Learners

Help me give my students a classroom diverse library. I would love to provide books that all of my students can identify with on various topics of race and cultural development.

My Students

My new students are bright lights who burn brighter the more they learn; even from a distance!! They are inquisitive, excited , and energetic students who make me smile every day! We are a school with a diverse mix of children coming from a various backgrounds and upbringings.

I have students from diverse backgrounds and diverse.

This upcoming year, I won't know the needs of my learners, I may have students whom are English Language Learners, students with special needs, or a few whom are academically low and struggle. With that being said, I may also have students who are high-achieving and need to have their love of learning fostered and taught at a higher level than some of the others.

My Project

As I prepare for next year, and a move from elementary to middle school I recognized that my classroom library is not near as diverse as it should be. Appealing to ALL my readers from various backgrounds and ethnicities is my priority for this next year! I would love to have the opportunity to support my learners and provide books that all of my students can identify with. These include books with topics such as Civil Rights, interracial students, books about racism, refugees, homelessness, disabilities and LGBTQ+.

I want my students to understand that I stand with them, I hear their fears and praises, I adore them, I can be their voice when needed, and that they are safe with me!!

I have researched various titles to make sure they will "speak" to my students, and challenge my students to think differently. I have accumulated a lot of great titles that are sure to do just that!
