My Project
Aloha mai! ʻO Lia-Tui Sarong koʻu inoa. No Kona mai au. I graduated from KHS, and, after college, I spent the last 2 years working at a bakery and at Four Seasons Hualālai.
This year, I am leaping into my teaching career with 5th grade at an elementary school.
My classroom came with desks to fit all 26 students and a teacher's desk. I have cabinets filled with lots of art supplies, lots of chapter books, and 2 shelves of classroom supplies (scissors, glue, whiteboards, and more).
Luckily, my school purchases all essential student supplies, but, in my project, I have requested items that I believe will make my classroom feel like my students' own.
Here is each item in my project and the purposes for each:
Colorful chair pockets will allow my homeroom students to store all their notebooks and folders.
Drawer carts will allow my reading class (I have two different classes) to have their own places to store their notebooks and pencil bags.
Headphone bags will let each student keep their headphones clean. Right now, all the headphones are together in a beaten up cardboard box.
A computer cart will provide a place to store and charge the Chromebooks. Other methods will likely require 6 power strips and shelves.
Finally, storage bins will keep all my supplies mold and bug free.
While most projects focus on a few items that can be used in reading nooks and such, I find that my most dire need right now is classroom storage because of the infestation of cockroaches and our mold problem. Everything in this project is intended to be one step ahead of the issue.
Mahalo for your time, I hope that you’ll decide to support my first ever classroom and my students who deserve the world.
