This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students attend a Title I school and are from diverse ethnic/cultural backgrounds, namely Bangladeshi, Chinese, Hispanic, and French. Ninety-five percent of our students are Latino and African Americans. Our classes serve students who are ENL learners who require a lot of accommodations and modifications; some with a range of disabilities and abilities including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
In our classroom, our students need a lot of visual printed resources around the room and for creating centers and labels for our special needs and ENL learners.
The chart paper will serve as reference points for concepts taught. Students will use Post-its for responding and annotating texts as well as responding to charts. Velcro dots will be used to attach and showcase students work to walls and bulletin boards. Students who struggle with fine motor issues will certainly benefit from the ergonomically designed scissors.
We also like to provide students with paper choice with different sized lines, personal charts for management needs, name plates, strategy and behavior charts for desks, as well as interactive centers. The copy paper will help us to have differentiated activities for students. Having these resources will prove to be very beneficial for our diverse learners.
