Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an elementary school teacher who teaches 28 active, energetic third graders who range in their academic abilities. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. A majority of my students are English Language Learners, coming from homes that speak a language other than English. Families want more than anything to see their children succeed, but they often lack resources.

My students are hardworking and determined--more than half do not read at grade-level but that does not stop them from trying their best and persevering!

I am very proud of their accomplishments and dedication to education at such a young age.

My Project

I am in need of quality resources to help teach students tolerance. It is easy to make fun of someone but difficult to learn about them. I want my students to understand the basic definition of tolerance and what it looks like in the classroom. It is my hope that what they learn at school will continue to guide them positively at home and during the rest of their lives.

It is my hope that embracing our differences, instead of mocking them, will lead to more tolerance in our classroom, school, at home, and ultimately in our community.

Your donations will provide a class set of Dr. Seuss' "The Sneetches" that will be used for years to come. Also, books showing tolerance and diversity.
