Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What do you remember about your first day in second grade? I want my students to fall in love with their classroom. I want them to be excited about returning. I want them to remember that they have a comfortable place to read quietly and fun activities that will help them learn.

My students come from low income families.

Every student in my school is eligible for free lunch. There is one library in the community which is about a 2 mile walk from the school. My students do not have reading books at home and because their parents work late hours, they are not able to take them to the library. The classroom is all they have in terms of opportunities to grow as students.

My Project

I have requested a variety of resources and they each serve a specific purpose. The colorful bean bag seats that I requested are so that students have a place to read that is inviting and will serve to motivate them to read. My students are very active and the activity mats will help them release some of that energy without disrupting the rest of the class. I have requested a theme box, books and language games to allow students to practice what they learn in a fun way.

These resources will help students fall in love with their classroom and learning.

It will help make the classroom their second home, where they can be comfortable and excited about learning.
