Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our middle school students love to be active...that is if they are able to find a sport or activity in which they enjoy and love. Luckily, Physical Education and Health are still available in school where students are exposed to a variety of sports and activities to participate in hopes to discover at least one that will motivate them to have fun, exercise and be active now and throughout their whole lives. Many students go on to participate in individual and/or team sports activities and leagues, whereas many just enjoy participating with family and friends. Regardless of what they choose, the exposure to these sports are extremely important for overall physical, mental, and social health.
Many of our students do not have opportunities to become part of a sports team due to the lack of programs in the area, as well as family financial situations.
However, with our Physical Education and Health classes, students will still be able to be active, learn teamwork, and discover benefits to playing sports and participating in physical activities.
My Project
Teaching from home can be a challenge, especially with limited supplies and space. These supplies will be able to help me teach and instruct my students more effectively on a daily basis. This year, I am the only Physical Education, Health, and Yoga teacher in the first virtual school in our district (Kelsey Peak Virtual Middle School). Our school was created to meet the needs of diverse learners who are best suited in an at-home and online setting. These supplies and equipment will allow me to deliver my instruction more professionally in a difficult home and limited in-person activity environment.
