Creating A Safe Space: My First School Counseling Office

My Project

As a first-year school counselor, I’m building my very first counseling office—one that serves as a safe, calming refuge for my students in grades K–8. Many of the students I work with come from underserved communities and face a wide range of emotional and social challenges. My goal is to create a welcoming space where they feel seen, supported, and safe enough to open up.

Every student deserves a space where they can breathe, reflect, and feel heard.

Your support will directly help create that space for hundreds of minority students who need it most. To do that, I’m requesting items like soft lighting, sensory materials (like Play-Doh and kinetic sand), motivational posters, a sound machine, and simple storage drawers to help keep the space organized and soothing. These materials will help transform a plain room into a warm, therapeutic environment where students can self-regulate, express their emotions, and learn vital coping strategies.
