This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all diagnosed with emotional disabilities and need a classroom that will meet their needs to keep them safe and engaged in learning. My kids need constant stimulation, fidget toys and soft spaces to decompress. They want to learn and need a safe place to do it!

My students are all public school students in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.

The vast majority of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch and come to school every day to learn and increase their potential for future success. My kids have a variety of intellectual, emotional and learning disabilities, but come to school to overcome their challenges and become successful and productive citizens. We offer a variety of vocational tracts in addition to the traditional educational path. These kids want to break the cycle of poverty and violence that they experience and they want to learn. With our help and support, they are doing it every day. I want to provide a safe and comfortable environment where my kids feel as though they can learn without judgment as to their specific abilities or disabilities. They are all learners and all have significant potential. Help me create my safe space.

My Project

My students all have significant learning and behavioral challenges as a result of their learning differences, emotional challenges or experience with trauma, poverty and violence in their community. My students can be easily agitated, unable to sit still or lack the social skills necessary for safe interactions with their peers. All of the resources that I am asking for will provide my students with sensory experiences to decompress, keep their minds focused and provide safe, soft spaces for them to calm down, and prepare themselves to return to classroom activities. My students will use all of these sensory items to fidget safely and appropriately while still being able to concentrate on the lesson and learning. They will use binders to track their academic and behavior progress over the course of each day and week.

Your donations will help provide my special education students with a safe and welcoming environment that meets their needs and provides them with the space that they need to learn and progress throughout the year.

Binders will be used to track behavior in school and to monitor progress. Headphones will be used for calming music and Online learning.
