My Students
Come into my classroom any school day and you will find some very busy little people exploring their world. In my preschool classroom, everyone is safe and everything is at their level. You observe busy little people getting to know their world better. They even have a fenced-in playground where they can climb, slide, run and imagine.
Outside of the school campus, it is a different story.
The neighborhood that surrounds the school is an impoverished one. The homes are very old and have not weathered well over the years. Many of them have burnt down and what is left is a shell of a house. Some of the blocks near our school have homes that have been preserved well. Many of these homes have fences that surround the home. It is hard-pressed to see children playing outside, even in the summer.
My Project
A huge skill that is developed in preschool is the strengthening of fine motor skills. One way to successfully obtain this is using art and painting. Preschool students love to paint and as a teacher, it is thrilling to see their pictures progress throughout the year. Whether it’s using their hands to make a creation or using brushes and different kinds paint, each painting is a work of art to my young artists. Currently, the easel that has been used in my class art center is in pieces. It broke over the summer and isn’t fixable. A new easel is needed along with refreshed paints.
