My Students
Drumming Circles have become very popular in schools and communities across the country. It's easy to see why! This simple and fun activity encourages team building and a sense of community through musical cooperation.
I am so fortunate to be a music teacher at a Title I, K-8 Charter School located in in Pennsylvania.
I am very proud that I can offer many opportunities to my students that allow them to experience a wide variety of musical experiences. Drumming circles are something that I have tried to incorporate in every grade, simply because they teach students how to work together to create a cohesive rhythm.
My Project
In a drumming circle, no one is the leader. All students work together to create and enhance the sound. And all students, no matter what their ability, can achieve success. It is one of the few activities that students who have no musical background will get to participate in an ensemble.
Drumming circle allow students to use auditory, kinistetic and visual cues to create a musical community.
Research has even shown that drumming circles allow students with behavioral or emotional issues an opportunity to work out frustrations through a creative channel. Above all, every student will benefit from the success they will achieve from working together to create beautiful music.
