Creating a Meaningful and Engaging Math Center

My students need specific common core math resources to aid them in structured and engaging activities during math centers time.

My Students

These highly energetic 4th graders are more visually inclined and learn math best when physical objects are accessible to help them make sense of problem-solving. I will surely share the resources across the grade-level so that 110+ 4th graders would have the opportunity to engage in such a powerful learning structure.

There may come a time when our students struggle to learn in a certain environment, therefore we must find out to change the environment where it is suitable for them to learn best.

These students really enjoy highly engaging activities where they can they can utilize their motor skills and tactile learning strengths.

However, when we are engaged in direct small group work, we need a structures means of minimize the collaborative activity, but maintaining an environment where the students can be continue the engagement and remain successful according to their learning strength.

My Project

My students need specific math center activities that accommodates their individual learning styles while I am engaged in small group instruction. We would use the "Common Core Math Task Cards" to create an instant math center that covers all the math standards and allow them flexibility in reinforcing previously learned skills.

It's a challenging task to keep students effectively engaged and held accountable during self-directed center activity.

However, the "50 Level Math Problems" activity provides effective research-based strategies and the appropriate differentiation to allow them to work independently while maintaining motivation and confidence.

Finally, the "Common Core Collaborative Cards" would not keep them engage in independent and reinforcing practice, it provides opportunity for collaborative and cooperative learn activities also.
