My Project

The world is a vast, amazing place. My students represent the many faces of this world. We work hard to be role models for kindness, empathy, generosity, and perseverance. Help me share more representative literature with my students so that every one of them can see themselves in our books and practice those key social skills.

My school is a public school in a high-poverty area, with a very diverse student population.

There are roughly 30 languages spoken in the homes of my students. Our entire school is currently receiving free federal lunches. Many of my students come from families struggling to meet even basic needs. Yet my students eagerly come in every day, ready for new discoveries and new challenges. Because of the positive attitudes towards learning that are being fostered here, my students fight hard to excel. I want them to have more books that model the social skills we strive for like courage, kindness, and a growth mindset. I also want them to all feel represented in the books we share in class discussions, as well as those they check out from my class library.
