This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a class of inquisitive, hard working, and motivated kindergarteners. My students are mostly ELL (English Language Learners) from a high poverty area where at least 90% of my class receive free or reduced lunch. They come to school each day with the brightest smiles and greatest attitude about learning even though we have limited to supplies in our class. This year I would like to expose them to flexible seating options and give them an opportunity to find the space that best works for them. This came about after having students with special needs who needed exercise balls and various seating options to help them focus. I noticed that many of the students wanted the same opportunity to change their seating as well. So this year we want to give everyone an opportunity to try flexible seating.

My Project

Implementing flexible seating using the wobble chairs, soft seats and pillows in my classroom will make a difference in kindergarten because my students often need to have a difficult time sitting still and being focused. Students at this age have a natural need to move around while they are working or even find a quiet place that best fits their needs. Having the flexible seating in my classroom with allow students the option to choose the seat that meets their needs at the time if it is sitting on the floor at a lowered table using a soft seat or the needs to sit in a wobble seat where they can wiggle around. By having these seating options it will help improve their focus and their academic performance.
