Creating a First Lego League

My students need 3 Lego Mindstorm kit and 2 iPad Minis with cases to be able to compete in FIRST Lego League.

My Students

Many of my students do not know what is going on beyond our city, state, or country's borders. They do not know what challenges face teens worldwide. Please allow me to introduce my students to Malala. She stood up for the educational rights for Pakistani girls. She is proof that one voice matters.

Our school has many nationalities represented.

My students are high achieving, yet, from various different economic backgrounds. Our school is considered to be a school of need according to the number of students that qualify financially for free lunch programs. My students love to learn. They enjoy hands-on labs where they can create products or explain and explore why things occur.

My Project

Our school is looking to add more after-school programs for our students. We have started a Lego club with our seventh graders this year. They have been hard at work creating our team through Legos.

We need three Lego Mindstorm sets, along with pairing iPad Minis with cases to be able to compete in FIRST Lego League.

We would love to continue to grow our Lego program by joining the FIRST Lego League to continue to challenge our students. We would attend competitions with our students to be able to see what other students and schools were able to do. It would be a great learning opportunity for all students involved.

Students will benefit from this project by learning about and exploring how to build different robots with Legos. With Legos, they can manipulate, create and problem solve to create the best robot for the specific type of project. Students will gain confidence that will carry over into all other subjects.

We plan on starting with one team, and if we find success, we would like to continue expanding with more teams.
