This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in a low-income school. My students do not have the money to provide school supplies and I do not ask for students to provide them. My students love attending art and their homeroom teachers tell me they get excited when it is "Art Day."

After 26 years of teaching art at the same school, my district has decided to cut my Fine Arts program by 3/4ths.

Next year, I will go from teaching Art full day to teaching Art & Music half a day, then travel to another campus and teach Art half a day. My school did not give me a budget to order supplies this past year nor have I been given a budget to begin a new art classroom on the new campus.

I would love to be able to start a successful art program on my new campus with the materials needed to help my students be successful. My students love coming to my class. I love to see the students that have difficulty in core classes (math, reading) have an outlet in art and be successful. These students gain a confidence that they do not receive from core classes. Please help me provide for my students with basic supplies needed to create a new art class.
