it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students at EA are outstanding and always eager to learn Spanish in class. Most of my scholars are taking a foreign language class for the first time, and it excites me to see them heading on the right path to becoming bilingual citizens of this nation. In addition, my scholars are expanding their awareness of Latin American culture, and they are discovering the abundant diversity of cultures in the world. In class, my scholars submerge themselves in multiple technology programs that enhance their learning experience. A few of the programs we use are Pear Deck, Quizlet, Kahoot, flip bird, Google Classroom, among others. These programs facilitate an interactive and enjoyable experience in learning a new language.
My Project
The Spanish project is a dream in the making. I have dreamt of building my students a fully equipped bilingual library for the past seven years of my teaching career, and I know that this project is only the beginning of what I envision creating in my classroom. Transitioning from online classes to in-person classes after COVID, I have noticed a higher need for a bilingual library to help my students expand their language skills in both Spanish and English. I also want to equip my classroom with audible books, and I have requested a speaker to help with the audio. These resources will create a space in my classroom to support students’ social, emotional, and mental well-being. Students will have a space to read in English or Spanish in class, and my Spanish-speaking students will find books that they connect with and feel comfortable reading. Likewise, my English speakers will discover books written by Latinx authors to learn from and expand their knowledge.
The Nevada Academic Content Standards for World Language that I will be covering with the library are the following:
Standard 2, Interpretive Communication: Learners understand, interpret, and analyze what is heard, read, or viewed on a variety of topics.
Standard 5, Relating Cultural Products to Perspectives: Learners
use the language to investigate, explain, and reflect on the relationship
between the products and perspectives of the cultures studied.
Standard 7. Acquiring information and Diverse Perspectives: Learners access and evaluate information and diverse perspectives that are available through the language and its cultures.
