Our school is a STEAM academy. I am always looking for ways to make that relevant and hands-on in first grade. I challenge myself to find innovative materials to allow students to build and see the connections across science, technology, engineering, art, and math curriculum.
I feel students need a variety of opportunities to develop creative and critical thinking skills in real-life learning experiences.
My students love exploring and building using normal everyday supplies. I am requesting Plastic Commercial Bus Tub, Magnetic Tiles, Erector Sets, Bridge Builders and more. We could take the engineering process one step further with these items for our STEAM bins. Students would be able to foster their creativity during centers or when they are finished with other work. These bins would allow students to work on soft skills as well. Skills like working together, communication and sharing.
