My Students
My students are an exceptional group of Kindergarten, First and Second graders who receive learning support services indicated by their Individulized Education Program. Services include direct Reading and Math instruction, Behavioral Support, and Social Skills Instruction. They are serviced inside and outside of the general education classroom with and without their same aged peers.
My students and their peers frequently fail to understand their unique differences, abilities, and gifts.
As the Learning Support Teacher, I would like to supplement the educational experiences of our K-2 school community by offering experiences that speak to our diverse group of learners. It is necessary for students to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others.
My Project
The materials included in my project reflect the cultural and social differences that exist within my school community. When facilitated effectively, stories of diversity and activities that reflect social and emotional learning, will create a positive and inclusive environment.
Through Read- Alouds, Think- Alouds, and Social Skills Activities, my project seeks to enhance student skills related to empathy, respect, and tolerance.
My project materials will also assist in building acceptance, admiration, appreciation, and nurturance.
As a result of this project, I hope that students begin to advocate for respect when they witness or overhear peers expressing bias, excluding others, and being mean to one another.
