My Project

Creating a Culturally Responsive classroom is vital for learning. Kids learn best when they are relaxed and ready, and having a classroom that welcomes and shows positive representation is a big part of that! This quote says a lot: “When someone with the authority of a teacher describes the world and you are not in it, there is a moment of psychic disequilibrium, as if you looked into a mirror and saw nothing.”― Adrienne Rich. As a new high school ELA teacher, I am looking to create a reflective and inspiring classroom for my students' creativity and genius to bloom!

This year, we will look at wording our world, exploring Afro Futurism, diverse historical leaders in literature, and writing our creative futures with power and nuance.

Recognizing the wealth of cultural knowledge each child holds and can bring to their writing will be a joyful and collaborative experience for everyone in the classroom.

Please help me build a beautiful setting, rich with diverse classroom posters, books, and social emotional support tools, to help me welcome students to a space where they can feel comfortable opening their minds and hearts and become involved in reading and writing on new levels!
