Help me give my students the opportunities to experience cultural diversity in different careers with culturally diverse puppets and baby dolls to help them visualize themselves in careers that include the fields of math and science.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Wels's classroom raised $581

My Students
My classroom is full of 24 kindergarten students who are eager to learn new skills. They attend a K-8 elementary school in the rural foothills of California. Our learning community is made up of many low income/high poverty families. Many students have not had the opportunity to attend preschool.
Our small, country school does not provide the opportunity for a variety of culturally diverse experiences.
After a recent school fire, we are moving into new classrooms this summer. Students are excited to be in the new rooms. For our school district, kindergarten is the environment for children to begin new learning experiences that will allow them to grow as students.
My Project
Dramatic play is important to the development of strong, independent, kindergarten students. Each day my students have a house/kitchen area where they play, interact, and practice different social skills.
The multicultural community helper puppets, the baby dolls, and the career costume set will allow my students to identify with different cultures as they role play various careers and situations.
This project will help to add variety and creativity to our special dramatic play area. Students of all cultural backgrounds will explore careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art and math. Together we will learn to play, and play to learn!
