Creating a Cozy Reading Corner - No Bullies Allowed!
My students need anti-bullying books, colorful book bins, computer ink and labels to turn our reading corner into a safe, cozy area to learn about dealing with bullies.

My Students
I want my classroom to be a No Bully Zone, including our reading corner. I'd like books about bullying and what it takes to be a good friend. I want to read and display the books, along with friendship and anti-bullying posters so our classroom is a bright, safe and happy place for everyone.
I teach twenty-two second graders in a very large elementary school.
We have approximately 700 students enrolled in our K-5 building. Each grade level has 100+ students in it. There can be over three hundred students on each playground during morning and lunch recesses! That means there are lots of interactions between groups of students.
My Project
I love the fact that Townsend Press is helping us spread the anti-bullying message to our students. I am requesting the book, Bullying in Schools, to help me teach my students how to be a good friend instead of a bully. I also selected a literature kit about bully busting, a book about making friends and several other books about important friendship issues. All of these books will help me launch anti-bullying discussions with my second graders.
My plan is to have my students work cooperatively to organize and decorate our reading corner using the colorful book boxes and creative posters. They will be able to display our new anti-bullying books along with lots of boxes of books about friendship. They can use the computer ink to print colorful posters to remind students to be kind and caring to one another. I can also print award certificates and labels for students exhibiting good citizenship in our classroom and on the playground.
Creating a No Bully Zone is of utmost importance to me.
Every child deserves a safe environment in which to learn. This project involves sharing and discussing good literature, and having the children work cooperatively to transform our classroom reading corner into a No Bully Zone. Undoubtedly, it will be an inviting place for all students to curl up and read about being a good friend and not a bully.
