My Students

As a teacher in a low income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I continually look to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that reflect their individual needs while also providing a flexible learning environment.

Many of my students are being raised by a single parent or in multi-family households and receive free or reduced price meals based on their socioeconomic status.

From the moment they enter my classroom, I work to develop a personal, respectful relationship, focusing on their potential and growth, and teaching them to recognize their potential and celebrate their successes.

My Project

My class of 33 students is on the second floor of a converted 1920s high school. When 33 desks and students are in the room, there isn't any room to move, let alone collaborate effectively.

My project will make a difference for my students because they will be able to learn and collaborate in an environment that they are comfortable in.

As a teacher, I strive to facilitate learning, allowing students to work together and learn from each other. The traditional classroom does not support this new way of education.

The furniture in this project will allow students flexibility in how they learn. The stools will allow them to sit at tall desks, allow more room and mobility to meet in groups, and provide additional seating options for more students. The tables will provide additional work spaces around our class, while the ball chairs allow students the ability to move without leaving their learning space.
