This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember the first time you made a pinch pot or a coil pot and how pleased your parents were of your art? We are a new art department and are slowly expanding. I would like to add to and increase our ceramic lessons.
I serve students in a low income neighborhood who have little access to the arts especially ceramics.
Many of our student's receive little if no extra curricular activities outside of school so programs such as art in school is the only exposure to the arts they will receive.
My Project
Students will use clay to explore the ceramic process. They will build pinch pots, coil pots, and venture further into hand building and slab construction. They will learn about the ceramic process and fire their pieces and then using the glaze we are requesting glaze their bisque pieces. The video and books will help teach concepts and vocabulary.
Student's will build self confidence and feel success as they create their art pieces.
They will learn about the role of ceramics in history and about pottery as a career path. They will round out their educations.
