My Students
My students come from a diverse blend of backgrounds in homes located near the gates of a major military base. I teach elementary art to 600 lively students who exhibit ingenuity, talent, and resilience in the face of poverty and the frequent deployments of loved ones. We are a Title I school that serves free breakfast to every child daily; 53% were receiving free lunch prior to school closures on March 13, 2020.
Art education means guiding students in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that engage their creative spirits.
We encounter a multitude of art materials and even get a bit messy in the process of learning to imagine, plan, and create.
My Project
The versatility of these water brushes will provide even more of my students with the means to paint with less whether they are at school or at home. Something to blot the brush tip replaces a container of rinse water. Students will use these water brushes to create art works with a variety of paint mediums, whether they are using a two dollar set of watercolors or a cup of unsweetened coffee. My students will create stand alone paintings, color their own comic strips, add artwork to ideas in their journals, and so much more.
